Lessons Learnt From 2020

Lessons Learnt From 2020

Year 2020 has been less than an ideal year for most of us if not for all of us. So many ups and downs. More downs than ups to be very honest. We have been put to the test with unpredictable situations and challenges that have forced us to move forward in a very uncomfortable direction. Many of us yet do not know how all of this is going to end yet we are hopeful for a better tomorrow. Having said so, Year 2020 has also been a year of opportunities that we have never thought of discovering in the past and it has also taught us the value of our life as well as the lives of others. It has made us aware of our duties and responsibilities towards each other as well as the human race. Personally, I have also learnt lessons that I may have never learnt in the coming years or for the rest of my life and I am grateful to realize and experience them so that I can put them into practice in the days to come.

I would like to share these lessons with you all so that we can come together as a family and fight our battles helping one another as we have been helped by others in the past.

Everything Is Temporary:

This is a surprising fact that many of us have never given a serious thought. Everything that we do and everything that we have worked for so hard for all this while is temporary. Whether it's your pet dog or that business we have established from scratch, our relationships with people, the things we have brought for ourselves to keep us happy, etc..all of this is temporary and not here to last forever including ourselves. We all wish to live forever and keep the things we treasure the most for the longest of time, but the fact is that all of it will be gone one day forever and shall be forgotten someday. So might as well go for whatever you wish to do in life as it is temporary too and shall not remain forever.

Truth of Life:

We all are aware of this truth. Whether it is that job that we thought we deserved the most or that promotion we wanted the most or if it is about that person we may have wanted to date because we thought we were the best fit for him/her but didn’t happen. No matter how much we feel or think that we deserved it more than others, the world is not going to just give it to us. The world is filled with billions of people just like us who think alike but it really does not matter to the world. At the end of the day we get what we are supposed to get and we must make it a point to make the most of it.

Others Will Treat You Just Like You Treated Them:

Our relationships with others is just a mirror image of how we have treated them. Treating our family and friends or even strangers for that matter, with respect and dignity goes a long way and helps us keep those relationships going effortlessly.

Sacrificing Your Health For Success Or Wealth Is Not Worth It:

We always have the tendency to want more and few people know when to stop. Money is the most important thing in the world when we don’t have it but once we have it nothing matters anymore. When we reach our old age, we may regret not working on our health as it is the only thing that will help us to spend some more time with our family and friends, the ones we have always loved all our life.

Possessions Don’t Matter Much:

When we are young, we relate our success to the things that we possess. We are always fascinated with the thing that others possess and we always wish to want it for ourselves as well. However, in the later stages of life when maturity kicks in we realise we really didn’t need the things that we now have around us. Would it really matter what gadgets you would possess 10 years down the line?

Always Hope For The Best:

Past experiences always help us in the decisions we have to make today for our present or for our future. There is no one who can guide us as much as our experiences in the past. The more challenging experience we have had in the past, the more mature decisions we will make in the present and for the future. Our experiences also help us in supporting our thoughts and emotions at the very moment. It's kind of like a hunch at the back of our mind that comes forward when we are about to make that decision and give us more clarity on the subject so that we can make the best decision for ourselves.

Happiness Is A Choice:

Happiness is not a feeling that comes from others or from their approval. It’s an emotion that comes from within and it requires a lot of hard work to feel happy. Our happiness today is based on our expectations from others. We need to work hard on ourselves to learn to ignore such things.

Everyone Is Really Out For Themselves:

Everyone wants to be a hero in their own movie called "My Life" and everyone wants to rise to the occasion. Just like we think we are special, similarly others also think the same for themselves. We all cannot be the lead of the same movie. So, people will always strive to be their best and this will help us recognize them for what they really are just like us.

Lifetime Isn’t That Long:

During this Covid-19 situation we have learnt how life can come to a standstill in just less than 24 hours’ time. It does not take much time for any life to come to an end if not lived consciously. When we were in our 20's we hoped to live three times longer as we were always excited for the next day to come. As we grow older, we realize how short life is and the most of our time just goes in maintaining this life from head to toe without having any room to notice and enjoy the real life within us and outside us in this world. It’s important we make a note of this and start living a more meaningful life from now on.

2020 has made us realize that the world is bigger than what we have experienced so far. The people around us carry a whole  lot of experience within themselves then what we can even imagine. Learning these experiences from people whom we meet and spending time with them in our life journey is a precious gift. Even if we are not able to experience the whole world ourselves, we can be content with the experiences of ourselves and those of others and make the best of our lives going further.
