- We are comparing our life to others: We all have fallen into this trap occasionally. The sooner we can get ourselves out of this rabbit hole, the earlier we can get out of this stigma. Nobody's life is perfect regardless of how they make it look on social media. No one is lucky. You need to create your own luck or wait to be out there at the right place at the right time. We often spend more time coveting the things that other people have rather than being content with what we have at the moment.
- We keep saying 'NO': As much as it is important to say 'NO' to ensure we have the space and the time to do the things we are committed to; it is equally important to say 'YES' to a few things that may excite you once in a while. No matter how comfortable we are on that couch, it is important we give chances to new things and new ways in life, to ensure we can learn from it and grow further in life. Every new thing that we wish to do brings some amount of challenge and excitement to the table. Whether we say 'YES' or 'NO' to it is completely our call.
- We need to change ourselves: If we are under the impression that things will change for us without us moving a finger then we need to first change our mindset. Change is constant. Things will continue to change. We will continue to evolve just like nature whether we like it or not. Today we are facing the pressure of generation gap between ourselves and our parents as well as the millennial gap between ourselves and our children only because we have somewhere resistant to change and the need to adapt to new ways of life. Adapting to survive is a common tendency of the human race. As long as we continue to adapt to the changes around us, we will be able to motivate ourselves for the future.
- We are wasting our money: In the last few decades our importance has changed from health to wealth. Each and every one one of us are constantly in the rat race of making that extra buck to lead a materialistic life that we don't even need in the first place. The more we earn, the more we spend. This is a vicious cycle that we are caught up in and very few of us are conscious about it. At times we become so materialistic that we are left with nothing at the end of the month and it is our go to excuse to skip those family gatherings and friendly time. It is about time we spend our hard-earned money on relationships that are here to last rather than on materialistic things that give us temporary happiness.
- We are doing the same things repeatedly: Waking up, brushing our teeth, having breakfast, getting ready etc are some of the mundane tasks that we have been doing all this while. We are so used to it that at times these tasks are carried out subconsciously in our minds without taking any effort. However, that does not take the boredom out of it. A human body is designed to always be in action and not stationary at one place for a long period of time. Else we would be better off as trees in a forest. Since some of our actions are mundane on a day to day basis, it is important to spice up our schedule a little during the day or week. Take up a new task so that we are excited to look forward to the next day. Make a bucket list of all the things you wished to do in your life but somehow did not find time to do so. This will spice up your life and put you in an excited mode ready to look forward to life.
- We are not living in the moment: Today most of us spend a lot of time either procrastinating about our past or planning about the future. The question is "What are we doing about our present? Are we just living the present for the sake of it? Why are we not living in the moment? If we wish to enjoy the real essence of life, it is vital that we live in the present moment and enjoy every experience that comes our way. We must make it a point to enjoy the process and not just the goal so that we can keep the boredom at bay.
- We are exposed to excess screen time: The amount of time we are exposed to screen time in a day has increased exponentially in the last few decades. Apart from the mundane work hours, we are constantly glued to our gadgets while travelling and even at home. Most of this time is used to absorb information that is not even relevant to us. Constantly checking our posts, others posts, status updates, notifications etc add to the mundane tasks of our life and do not reap any benefits. Hence, whenever we have the time to be ourselves, we must avoid reaching out to our gadgets which will eventually reduce the boredom that we often fall prey to.
- We don't get enough quality sleep: As per research, a human being must rest for at least 7 to 8 hours a day for some good quality sleep. However, the trend today lands at an average of 5 to 7 hours per day. Further, the sleep patterns are erratic and not beneficial to us due to which we wake up less energetic and groggy. We feel like we never slept at all. In case you are one of them who constantly feels tired or waits for the weekend to catch up on some sleep, we must make changes to our lifestyle to sleep better.
- Our minds are constantly busy: Just because our minds are occupied with all the chatter all around us, does not mean we are productive. It just means that our minds are clogged with things that are absolutely unnecessary at the moment. At times it is important to cut off yourself from the outside world and keep calm. Our mind affects our body in different ways. Hence, it is important to keep our mind healthy.
- We feel worthless: Most of us have come across this feeling at some point in time. This is a major reason why today the cases of depression and suicides have skyrocketed. It is important to understand that we are all worth something else we would not have existed on this planet. We all have a purpose in life. The question is how are we recognizing it. Are we comparing ourselves with ourselves or with others? Comparing our progress with that of the others does not does not consider all aspects for comparison as we are just comparing their current status or success with ours and not their journey. It is imperative we recognize our strengths and weaknesses and see how far we have come today from the days in the past. We only need to be better than the earlier version of ourselves and not better than anyone else.
The bottom line is that our life is in our hands and how we manage is also up to us. Hence, feelings such as boredom are just here to stay with us temporarily. The sooner we change our minds and put our thoughts into actions, we can take away all the boredom and change it to something more exciting and adventurous. We need to understand that boredom is just another feeling just like any other feeling like happiness, love, anger etc and how deeply we consider it makes all the difference. If any of you have come across a similar type of boredom often do let us know in the comment how you battled your way out of it. I am sure it will encourage each one of us to get better and better in our own personal lives.
